Every year, thousands of people of all ages are diagnosed with blood cancers like leukemia or lymphoma, sickle cell anemia or other life-threatening diseases. Many of them will die unless they get a bone marrow or cord blood transplant from a matching donor. Seventy percent of people do not have a donor in their family and depend on our Be The Match Registry to find a match to save their life.
KAC Atlanta will be hosting a booth at this year’s Asian Cultural Experience, where we will be recruiting people to join the National Bone Marrow Registry. Bone marrow matches are more likely from within the patient’s own race or ethnicity. The challenge to find a matching donor is greatest among racially and ethnically diverse communities such as ours. So we are making a push to increase the number of registered Asians. Please join us at this year’s ACE to help us recruit registrants and/or become a new registrant yourself.
Please contact James Green at greenj9632@gmail.com if you will be able to help man our booth.
